José Candón Mena


josecandonJOSÉ Candón Mena (jcandon@us.es) is a lecturer at the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising, and a researcher at the Interdisciplinary Group of Studies in Communication, Politics and Social Change – COMPOLÍTICAS (University of Seville). He holds a PhD in Communication Sciences and Sociology. His thesis, entitled “Internet in Movement: New social movements and new media in the information society” was awarded the Special Doctorate Award from the Complutense University in Madrid (UCM). He holds a degree in Advertising and Public Relations by the University of Málaga, an MA in Public Communication and Political Institutions (UCM) and also an MA in Teaching and Research for Higher Education (UNED), as well as a second degree in Sociology (UNED). José has been the coordinator of the Move.net Congress on Social Movements and ICT. He is an expert in communication, social movements, technopolitics and social appropriation of ICTs, as well as the author of “Toma la calle, toma las redes. El movimiento #15M en Internet” (Atrapasueños) and of several chapters, articles and communications on the subject of political communication. He has also worked as a journalist and press officer for trade unions and political organizations and has taken active part in diverse initiatives of communication and social appropriation of ICTs such as Indymedia Narrow, Hack-Ándalus and N-1.
